Kasese Give a Goat-Africa (KAGAG) is an NGO founded in 2006 by concerned citizens in Uganda and Germany friends from Schenke eine Ziege .e.V. KAGAG was registered by the NGO bureau to carry out its activities in the community in Uganda.
KAGAG espouses the concept of good governance that is hinged on the core organisational values. NGOs need good governance for effective functioning, growth and sustainability. The principles of good governance hold true in the dynamic environment the NGOs face today as the issues of accountability, transparency, responsibility, disclosure practices and organizational relationships among the board and stakeholders have come to the forefront. It is thus advisable for NGOs to follow good governance practices, to strengthen its own internal structure, to avoid any crisis arising out of poor governance, and to establish the public image and credibility of the organization by exhibiting transparency, accountability and responsibility. Though there is no βone size fits allβ approach that can be taken here, but a guide for NGOs to put together good governance principles into the structure and functioning is here forth presented.
The human resource component of KAGAG is key to the development of the organization. The organization has an established staff structure based on the program areas being implemented. The BOD has set policies to govern the organization as described in Fig.1. We shall note that the organizational structure (Fig.2) creates the chain of command and communication, spells the roles and responsibility for each party and how resources are managed at KAGAG. The linkage with development partners and how to approach the different stakeholders. The BOD of KAGAG has ably stated and maintained the structure, communication levels and how to process information at the organization.
